City-Building Kit Comparisons
Each of the City-Building Kit versions has a foundation built up higher and higher with more and more capabilities for each higher version beginning at the Starter Kit. So depending on your goal for game developing, you can decide which version best suits your needs as a developer. Each version of the City-Building Kit is ready to make city building games at the minimum up to city building + Real Time Strategy(RTS) games and even tower defense games at the maximum with all the features and some unique features ready to be used right out of the box. Below is a direct comparison between each version of the City-Building Kit for Unity. Do note that the one true common across all versions is the fact that you can edit everything.
The Starter Kit
This is your basic foundation with a single game license. There are no PvP situations included but you can still make city building social games like Farmville, Cityville, City Island, and The Simpsons Tapped Out clones. All of which have become very popular. The downside is that there are no battle situations that can be included directly from this version of the City-Building Kit. The upside is that you can still make your own. Everything included with this version can be edited which also adds to the time you save from having to make everything from scratch.Watch DemoPlay Demo App

City Building Kit Feature Highlights
Multi-Player Battle Cheats
As a developer, testing your city building + Real Time Strategy (RTS) game(s) becomes all too important. While certain aspects of your game are being built such as the battle modes, you’d want to test them quite heavily. With the City-Building Kit for Unity, testing becomes a lot easier with the included multi-player battle cheats (developer cheats). Not only does this help you with battle testing, it can also be setup as a type of reward, for example, for players that use your In-App Purchases.
Non Playing Characters (NPCs) are the units your players interact with for various purposes such as quests, providing information, or just wandering animated decorations. When you check a game such as Cityville, the NPCs are roaming all over the place. In a game such as Clash of Clans, the NPC gives the opening (first time) tutorial. The City-Building Kit comes with a demo builder NPC for you to edit and use in your own game(s). Its main purpose is for you to learn exactly how NPCs work and can be used in your game(s).
The City-Building Kit for Unity has the ability to deploy your city building + Real Time Strategy (RTS) game(s) to many operating systems (OS)/ platforms. Since the City-Building Kit is made for Unity developers, any platform that Unity can deploy to, the City-Building Kit can deploy to it too. Going cross platform with the game(s) you develop using the City-Building Kit won’t take much of anything for extra effort. It’s all included right out of the boxes of both the City-Building Kit and Unity.
One of the most common questions among gamers is “what’s your level”? The City-Building Kit includes an XP (eXperience Points) system that can be setup to give XP depending on the players’ actions/completions. In Clash of Clans, you can gain XP for your level in various ways such as buy and place buildings/decorations, and after battles. Then at a certain point, the players level up. The included examples of the City-Building Kit can be adjusted right from the start and be mixed and match to suit your strategy game(s).
Prototyping A Game
When you have an idea for a game, a developer would want to see something made quickly. Even just to get the basics done and try it out. The City-Building Kit for Unity allows a developer to do exactly that. Quickly put together a game to test and eventually modify it just as quickly. Isometric, 2D, and 3D games are all possible to be made in the City Builder. So games like Restaurant Story, Clash of Clans, and Simons Tapped Out can be made and tested with a lot less effort from the Unity developer.
Ok, your game is being put together and you’re test playing it. Now you want to go blow up someone or something good!!
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it work with Unity 5? Why do I still need NGUI/2DTK?
Yes, we support Unity 5 however the UI/2D functions expanding the kit are far more advanced than Unity 5's UI/2D features currently provide. You'll need the NGUI and 2D Toolkit assets which are further developed.
Where can I get the latest copy?
Click the link at the top of this page to download the latest copy. As long as you have your license code, you will be able to download the latest dev build, upgrade your kit and get any bonuses included with our highest packages.
When do you release updates?
We've designed the kit to be compatible with future releases of Unity, NGUI, and 2DTK since we don't update often unless we discover a bug we missed during our extensive testing we did before this past release.
